A handful of the country’s smaller consultancies have come together to launch the Australian Digital Delivery Alliance to coordinate digital government projects.
Founding members of the alliance include Ora Advisory, BizCubed, ConceptSix, Excelium, GoSource and Local Peoples, with former BCG partner David Heacock as spokesperson and coordinator.
The Australian Digital Delivery Alliance (ADDA), due to be officially launched next month, was created in response to what its leaders believe has become an unfair playing field in government procurement.
“Australia has so many sovereign consultancies who want nothing more than the chance to work and lead successful digital programs,” Ora’s Lisa Milin said of the launch. “Together we will work seamlessly together to educate and influence government ICT on new delivery models and approaches that will renew capabilities, produce real digital outcomes and create lasting value.”
The move comes amid growing calls led by independent ACT senator David Pocock to reform Australia’s public sector procurement process with more emphasis on building sovereign capacity, but smaller firms will still face off against their larger, well-funded local counterparts such as such as Nous Group, Synergy, Mantel and Atturra bid for contracts.
A recent LinkedIn post by Heacock — who, in addition to the Boston Consulting Group, also previously served as director of digital innovation at DXC Technology and in the public sector — noted that government digital services marketplace BuyICT had only three of 135 open opportunities at the time. they are listed as “open to all”, which puts smaller suppliers at a significant disadvantage.
This results in an alliance in which the parties together bring a wide range of consulting, design and delivery capabilities. Both launched in Canberra since COVID-19, ConceptSix and Ora Advisory combine strategic and transformational services with technology know-how, while other ACT-based companies GoSource and Excelium focus on high-end digital build and cyber defence.
They are joined by Victorian human-centred design company Local Peoples, which launched a Canberra studio last year, and Sydney-based data and analytics consultancy BizCubed. Former PwC partner Rosanne Brand and Marissa Lynch, who led marketing functions at BCG and Ernst-Young, among others, are also founding members.
