KPMG selects the latest cohort of Future Technology start-ups

Following previous cycles focused on supply chain and space technology, KPMG has unveiled the latest cohort of start-ups for its Future Technology programme, which this year focuses on solutions for the workplace.

Professional services firm KPMG has selected five start-up participants for the latest round of its Future Technology accelerator programme, which is running in partnership with Stone & Chalk, which this year is focusing on workforce solutions.

Recipients of the 12-month residency include talent platform GoFIGR and reporting and case management solution RespectX, which have founders and advisors who bring consulting backgrounds.

“The pandemic has fundamentally changed the nature of the workforce, leaving employees and employers grappling with a complex set of new challenges,” said Sarah Vega, national managing partner of KPMG Futures. “We’re excited to support companies delivering solutions that are changing the way employers work with their teams to create more resilient, supportive and sustainable work environments for the future.”

Vega cited mental and emotional well-being and technology burnout as examples of the growing challenges of today’s workforce, while Future Technology’s latest cohort is also addressing issues in areas such as credentialing and skills tracking, the impact of business transformation and rising employee expectations for personalization. Meanwhile, RespectX tackles another serious issue: sexual harassment, bullying and discrimination.

RespectX was founded in 2022 by former KPMG couple Shey Newitt and Sally Calder, who served as the firm’s lead national culture, diversity and inclusion partner for nearly a decade and a half. risk management with an integrated compliance function, along with a range of training tools and leadership and culture consulting services.

GoFIGR co-founders Nicolai Lindholm and Helena Turpin, meanwhile, bring backgrounds from Accenture and Deloitte, where Turpin served as head of digital talent innovation. Lindholm also spent time with Deloitte in Denmark, along with Accenture and its cloud acquisition Industrie&Co.

In addition, GoFIGR features former head of strategic design at BCG Digital Ventures Tarra van Amerongen as an advisory board member.

Founded in 2020 amid the global COVID-19 crisis, GoFIGR (formerly Flow of Work) is an internal talent management platform designed to get the most out of employees through upskilling, job matching and career development, with Turpin citing the selection companies; “It’s not often that startups get access to the caliber of talent and extended networks available at KPMG, so we’re pretty excited about the benefits this gives us.”

Selected start-ups – which also include Crewmojo (personalised employee experience), MyPass (skills and compliance tracking) and Matae (change management) – will now have the opportunity to start a 12-month residency at one of Chalk & Stone’s Innovation Centers in either Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide, while receiving guidance and support from KPMG mentors and industry leaders in their expansion efforts.
