Former Deloitte Australia CEO Richard Deutsch has been appointed as a non-executive director at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank.

Richard Deutsch will take up the role on 20 September 2021 and his remit will expand in early November when he replaces Robert Hubbard as Chairman of the Board’s Audit Committee following Hubbard’s retirement from the Board of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank.

The bank’s chairman Jacqueline Hey welcomed Deutsche to the board: “Richard’s deep audit and advisory experience will bring significant weight to both our board and the board’s audit committees. His commitment to community empowerment and social justice is also strongly aligned with our bank’s values, long-term purpose and vision to be an Australian bank.

Deutsch brings more than three decades of professional services experience to the role. Between 1989 and 2014, he worked in various roles at PwC Australia. Most recently, he managed the firm’s consulting business, sat on the firm’s leadership team (nine years) and managed the integration of Strategy& (formerly Booz & Company) into PwC for Asia. He previously led PwC Australia’s insurance practice.

He joined Deloitte in early 2015 and eventually became Managing Director of Deloitte Australia and a member of the Executive Board of Deloitte Asia Pacific. In March 2021, he announced that he had decided to step down for personal reasons, with Adam Powick not taking over his role until much later.

Deutsch holds a BA in Economics from the University of Sydney and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (FCA). Commenting on his role as a non-executive director, he said: “It is an honor to be a member of the Board of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. I am strongly connected to the purpose of the organization and the community.”

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank was formed in 2007 by the merger of Bendigo Bank and Adelaide Bank. The financial institution focuses primarily on the retail banking segment.
