“This collaboration with two major technology players marks another important step in our ambition to create one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world here in Australia,” said Kim Krogh Andersen, Telstra’s Group Managing Director of Products and Technology. “It will allow us to deepen our partnership with the AFL and provide more immersive and innovative experiences for fans at Marvel Stadium.”

In addition to navigation with personalized seating instructions that are entered when the ticket barcode is scanned, the app will also feature Augmented Reality (AR) pre-match shows and multiplayer AR games, along with enhanced player analytics and performance statistics, among other exclusive content. However, Krogh Andersen also points to possible future use cases in environments such as hospitals, shopping malls and airports to improve the customer experience.

Powered by 5G, the wayfinding tool is powered by the Google ARCore Geospatial API, which uses machine learning and state-of-the-art computer vision to combine recorded image data and device sensor data to create a virtual 3D map and pinpoint exact location. This allows for precise graphical anchoring and AR enhancements so users can interact with digital content and display characters in real time.

“Accenture is excited to help deliver truly innovative and exclusive customer experiences that fully embrace the technology that the cloud continuum, AR and 5G can ignite,” said managing director Emma Neil, who leads the Communications, Media & Technology corporate group for ANZ . “In this emerging metaverse continuum, the potential for immersive and dynamic fan experiences is enormous.”
